Top Brass. An unfolding story.
Our business was born in 1968 with the coming together of three friends and an initial start-up investment of just £1,000.
We first traded under the name of ABS, specialising in the manufacture of blinds and curtains. In our formative days, we had a workforce of eight. Initial contracts came through personal connections which founder Geoffrey Bassett had cultivated along the way.
Our first big break was our successful bid for the GLC School contract, which provided the opportunity to secure more lucrative contracts. It was at this time, in the late 90s, that we began to make and install curtains for Top Brass Furnishers who then focused on bed manufacturing. Within four years we had more than doubled our turnover and were able to acquire their business.
In 2007, John Harrington joined Top Brass as a contracts manager, and today he is our CEO.
John and Geoffrey’s combined hard work, endeavour and investment have seen the company mature and develop. We have extended our product range to include high-end bespoke furniture and metal works. To our service offering we have added refurbishments, both large and small. Today, the business employs forty members of staff.
Looking ahead, Top Brass has now created its own in-house print division. Our machines can print onto almost any surface, including wood, glass, fabrics, acrylics and plastic. Always a group to solve problems and create new products, very recently we acquired the rights to be the exclusive UK distributor of a unique sofa which can be converted into a sofa-bed within twenty seconds.
We look forward to continuing to innovate, to grow and develop our business, always staying one step ahead of the curve so we can best meet tomorrow’s challenges.
